Velentza rug (of the so-called barren type). It is a woven blanket used in winter as a cover for built-in sofas. The item has been extensively pounded during fulling. It is called “barren” owing to the lack of thick nap other blankets usually have. Black wool yarn has been used in the warp. The narrow sides of the plain (or, the central piece of decoration) consists of brick red strips dominated by the mug motif. Chainlike edge delimits the plain on black background on which evolve typical motifs used in Metsovo velentza rugs, such as apples and stools.
Hanging woven material (boucharopodia) used as a fireplace decoration. Its horizontal decoration structure divides it into two zones, one in green and one in dark blue, with a distinct scale, the arch, whose outline is emphasized by the use of yellow and red colors. The central decoration motif consists of the Achelous River (or aspropotamos [white river]) together with four snakes and a series of supplementary geometric elements, such as the diamond and the mug, as well as anthropomorphic elements (such as the grandfather) and zoomorphic elements (such as the horse, the eagle, etc.). The outward edge surrounding the central sheet is decorated with cherries.
Rug-like blanket (khrami) in white color, formed by three same-width sheets, sewn together. White woven materials are associated with the upper social class and are usually used in wedding occasions or feasts. The decoration is composed by alternating rows of manalia, eagles, chiavra, roses and mugs. With all-around inward fringe with stylized motifs, such as children and cherries. The outer border is formed by chainlike edge with apples. With fringed ending.
Oblong woven cushion for built-in sofa. A dark blue background is dominated by two birds facing each other and surrounding the Achelous River (or aspropotamos [white river]), a distinctive Metsovo pattern. With all-around chainlike (skalisitou) edging with apples; the ending of the woven cushion is outlined by delicate edging in brick red color.
Hanging woven material (boucharopodia) used as a fireplace decoration. It consists of three sheets: the central one, which is the widest, and two narrower ones. A toothed arch divides the central part into two, with the dominant motif in the centre being a diamond (petes) with two-headed eagles. The remaining surface is covered by a series of supplementary motifs, such as diamonds, roses, little girls and mugs in red and golden-yellow colors. The outward edge surrounding the central piece is decorated with keys.
